5 tips for brides getting ready
When you’re getting ready the morning of your wedding day, I always start with your bridal detail photos. As a Ottawa wedding photographer I care deeply about your photos being the best that they can be. Here’s 5 Tips for brides getting ready. It will help you know what you can do to elevate your photos.
1. Plenty of natural light.
Choosing a space to get ready that has lots of natural light is key. The larger the window, the softer the light. The more windows, the better. Your makeup artist and your photographer will thank you especially if they don't have to compete for the only window available. When booking your hotel room, make sure the colour of the walls are neutral. Natural light travels from wall to wall. If the walls are green, a green light will be cast on anything or anyone. This is why neutral colours are your best friend. Also, never underestimate a beautiful Airbnb over a hotel room.
2.. A clean space
A clean space goes far. Clearing out purses, suitcases and water bottles out of the room is a must. Have a closet designated to put everyone’s things in. Name a Bridesmaid responsible for this task. A clean background for your bride getting ready photos is a must.
3. Prepping your wedding gown
You've spent a lot of money on your wedding dress. Only to leave it on the cheapest hanger that exists out there. You don't have to spend the extra money on a personalized hanger with your name on it if you don't want too. But a polished hanger that you already own in your closet will be much better than the hangar your wedding dress came in. I cannot stress that enough. Anything else will do.
4. leftover florals
Ask your florist for leftover greenery and flowers. Florists often have a few flowers that doesn't end up being used for your florals. Ask your florist in advance to pack separately a few leftovers for your photographer. Also, make sure your wedding bouquet is at your getting ready location before your photographer gets there.
5. Have your details in one place
Have all your details in a bag or all in the same place ready to be photographed. Ideas of what details to be photographed: weddings dress, veil, bridesmaid dresses, wedding shoes, perfume, jewelry, bracelet, necklace, earrings, flowers, purse, clutch, wedding invitation suites or any paper goods, swatches of lace, fabric or ribbons, heirloom pieces, rings, ring box etc. I always photograph all the rings in the morning while you’re getting ready. Your engagement ring and your wedding bands. I do this so after the ceremony is done, the rings won’t have to leave your finger.
